2017 has been a once in a lifetime year for me. I’ve experienced massive changes, new adventures, challenging work, sad losses and uplifting beginnings. Along this journey I have leaned on habits and tools to help me meet things head on. I’ve been focused on learning and personal growth. I’ve tried to keep myself as physically healthy and rested as possible. I’ve hired coaches. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone. I’ve tried things I’ve never done before. I’ve journalied and written more than ever. These all help. A lot. But there’s one bedrock that has helped me the most. People.
People are why I’m doing well and will continue to do better.
Friends, family, peers, new friends I’ve made this year, new colleagues and people I’ve met on my journey in 2017 are the main reason I will get thru this year having made lots of progress and experienced lots of growth.
Some aren’t shy about it, but many of us want to feel the strength and courage to tackle many things on our own. To show us others we can handle things. “I got this”. In my mind, that’s the wrong approach.
I like “we got this” much better. I have learned so much from others, I have gained so much new and different and enlightening perspective from others (including friends and family members), that I know there is no way I could have done this year without them.
Earlier this year I wrote about how we need to recognize that sometimes we don’t need to be the leader and out front, that sometimes our role is support, to just be there for others however we can. We also need to recognize that sometimes we just need to lean on others, for guidance, support and perspective.
Thank you to all the people who have and continue to help me along the way. I couldn’t have done any of this without you.
